Patel Hospital Launches Jalandhar’s Most Advanced Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (BMD/DEXA) Scanning.
Jalandhar February 17, 2023: Patel Hospital introduces DEXA scan, the quick and easy bone density test to diagnose osteoporosis and other bone-related illnesses. Dr. SK Sharma, Managing Director of Patel Hospital inaugurated The DEXA scan facility, which is the first installation among multispecialty hospitals in Jalandhar.
Patel Hospital, one of the leading health care facilities in Jalandhar and the state of Punjab, is known for providing state-of-the-art medical and surgical care with state-of-the-art technologies at par with the rest of the world – these include high-end robotic surgery, superspecialised cancer treatment incorporating IMRT/IGRT, advanced diagnostics including the most advanced PET / CT in the region (Siemens Biograph Horizon).
DEXA scan measures bone mineral density in order to determine whether a person is at risk of osteoporosis or not. Dr. Shamit Chopra, Director, Patel Hospital and Dr. Ruhi Karwal, HOD, Radiodiagnosis, shared that the Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry or DEXA can detect changes as small as 1%, making it much more sensitive and accurate than a regular X-ray, which can only detect changes in bone density (osteopenia) after about 40% bone loss. DEXA is a painless technology one examination lasts for less than ten minutes. The radiation exposure is also very low—only 10% of a typical chest X-ray.
Dr. Swapan Sood, (Medical Superintendent), Patel Hospital, shared that DEXA can determine bone mineral density for any bone in the body. The examination is specially performed for Bone density evaluation in males and females, esp. post-menopausal to predict fracture risk. It can also be used for planning and follow-up of joint replacement and sports injuries.
Dr. BS Chopra, Director, Patel Hospital, Jalandhar, thanked the gathering of specialists and expressed hope that the region’s patients will benefit from our addition of this technology.
